Scarlett's sixth month was a ton of fun :) She began playing with even more toys, and most definitely enjoyed staring at herself in her little mirror. Her independent play made it a bit easier in the evenings for us to get chores done and prep for the following work day. Scarlett did however, start to get bored if we didn't move her around enough. Although her bouncer was (and still is) her favorite place to play, she on occasion preferred stretching out on her play mat, or relaxing under her mobile in the pack n play. Scarlett got new tub toys for Easter, which made her bath time even more exciting too! Most evenings, as long as she wasn't super tired, she enjoyed long, half-hour baths.
Scarlett had her first Easter, where mommy tortured her by putting bunny ears on her, but she didn't mind because she was given so much attention from family :) We also continued to bring her out more often to spend time with our friends. Although she still occasionally became shy around people she didn't know, she definitely loved meeting our friend Kellie's puppy. She screamed with delight when Zoey sniffed and licked her feet, and Scarlett even tried sticking her little toes up poor Zoey's nose!
We tried quite a few more solid foods with Scarlett, and she definitely let us know when she didn't like something! She really loved pears and sweet potatoes, but HATED squash and peas. She gagged horribly and dramatically until mommy stopped torturing her with them. Scarlett liked bananas, but they slowed her digestive tract too much so we will have to hold off on those for a little while! Scarlett also seems to love eating from a spoon, opening her mouth wide with eagerness for the next yummy bite.... unless of course it was something she hated.
Scarlett learned to stick her tongue out on a regular basis, and giggled while doing it all the time. Pretty sure she learned that from Melanie's kids :) Her baby babble also increased to more intentional sounds, and she started including the sounds dadadada in it, which daddy is of course thrilled about :) If I tell her to say "mama," she just giggles, doh.
Scarlett enjoys story time, especially when she gets to try and turn the pages or hold the book. And of course she thinks the books taste good :)
Scarlett has an obsession with paper, always wanting to crinkle it and eat it when she sees it. It has made her weekly pictures tougher to take with the sign, and she becomes very upset when we take paper away from her. Usually a quick distraction of something else fun puts her back in a happy mood though :)
Tummy time is still tough, but Scarlett is starting to get a little better with it on occasion. She will temporarily be amused if one of us lays down with her, or if Copper comes over to investigate. She is becoming much better at sitting up by herself, and loves that it's another position she can easily grab at her feet. Scarlett also loves kicking while sitting though, which tends to lead to tumbling over. Aside from her paper obsession, she is obsessed with touching everything with her feet. She grabs onto things with her tiny toes, or eagerly kicks at them. It is also super fun when someone tickles or blows raspberries on her feet!
At Scarlett's six month doctor visit, she weighed 17lbs 6oz, and measured 25in long. We are pretty sure they were off by about an inch though when we remeasured her that night at 26in. Her doctor was very impressed by her strength, and although she was still only rolling over on occasion, she chose that moment to show off to the doctor and try to roll over on the table! Although she cried during her shots, she recovered much quicker this time. Scarlett is such a brave girl!
I unfortunately was not able to take Scarlett's six month photos until a week or so after, but she suddenly learned to have a "cheesy" smile, which made for some super cute pictures!! :)
